On to Lock 18

It's difficult to slip the lines off the dock wall and leave the pristine setting at Lock 8.

The oldest Lockmaster's cabin, built in 1914, is one of the many well-cared-for structures in which Parks Canada takes pride.

We pass within yards of hundreds of homes and holiday cottages along the entire waterway.
Because of this, the speed limit is restricted to 10 kilometers/hour (6 mph) for much of our trip.

But it's fun to have conversations with locals as we slowly cruise by their docks!

Brightly colored flowers are definitely a theme amongst the entire population of Canada!

We're pretty sure this "summer cottage" has a gardener who works very hard!

We have yet to come up to a lock that isn't, in some way, a work of art!

Spiritus waits for the last outcoming boat (on the far left) to clear before moving into the lock.

Parks Canada hires college students for summer help.
The student in the red shirt walks round & round in circles, slowly closing the upper lock door.

Not to be outdone, the staff at Lock 18 spruces up their grounds in a unique way!

Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream is Canada's answer to Baskin & Robins.  We have literally NOT been in a town on the Trent-Severn that does not have at least one store selling this ice cream!
The First Mate is determined to try as many flavors as she can!

  1. Eddie & Linda- Love your pictures of the locks. It must be exciting to be lifted (or is it lowered?) on so many occasions.
    Don't get seasick, lol.
    Safe journey,
    Don
