North Channel

The North Channel is north of Lake Huron and offers some of the finest cruising & anchorages.

Spiritus is traveling with Aurora & Carina .... nice shot of our boat, eh?!

We were in awe of this sea plane that landed just outside the channel.  Can you guess who has right of way?

First Mates Cindy & Linda welcome us to the beautiful Killarney resort & marina!

Loved this view from Spiritus' flybridge as she is moored at the Killarney Mountain Marina.

Eighteen Loopers  gathered at docktails ... we had all met previously at different times & places!!
It was so much fun reconnecting with the Loopers we hadn't seen since the Erie Canal.

We usually remember the boat's name before the crewmember's names.

We stayed 2 nights at this breath-taking resort.  It was fun to watch Canadians fly in and out in the seaplane.

We couldn't believe the fresh fish the fishermen were bringing from their boats to the dock. . . . . . .

. . . . . . the best part was they cooked and sold it right here out of this bus ... and it was deeeelish!

And the First Mate discovered her FAVORITE Canadian ice cream ... Farquhars ... it's great to lick and fun to say!

 This was a first for us . . . . . . a "Boat-In Theater".

After we left Killarney, we anchored in this serene cove.  It doesn't get much better than this.

We are reluctant to leave our pristine anchorage, but are delighted to cruise through the mountaneous terrain.

Created by glaciers, the North Channel has some of the oldest rocks in the world exposed on its north shore.

WARNING:  Watch out for pirates in this rugged, isolated terrain.

Spiritus, Aurora, & Carina spend our last night in Canada at Blind River Marina.

The Captain and First Mate enjoy riding into town on the courtesy bikes.
We indulged in our last treat at the infamous Tim Horton's!

After docktails, we listened to the master blow his conch shell as the sun set.
It's been a delight to hear Kent, from Carina, blow his conch shell at every anchorage in Canada.

Would you believe this is a full moon setting just before sunrise?  Amazing!

We say farewell to Canada and head across Lake Huron as the sun rises off our stern.

We sing "America the Beautiful" as we cross into American waters.  We're sad that our cruising in Canada is over but so glad we had such a wonderful experience.

  1. We had hoped to see you when you were in our home cruising ground - the North Channel. As we crossed from St. Joe's Island into the North Channel we saw Aurora and Carina making their way to Drummond Island.

We have completed our Loop and are feeling kind of sad! Enjoy the rest of your travels - stay safe!
