On to Venice & Englewood Beach

The first of many signs, warning us to be on the lookout for manatees.

Never saw a manatee, but we did see this roaming around someone's backyard as we cruised by!

Oh, to have a simple little place by the sea!

We spent two nights at the Crow's Nest Marina in Venice.  Venice Beach is known as the Shark's Tooth Capital of the World.
We searched the beaches for sharks teeth, but came up empty handed.  We did, however, see several toothless sharks!

The marina provided courtesy bikes that we rode to the beach and historic downtown.

Creatively painted dolphin and turtles decorate the streets of Venice.

Like so many small towns throughout the country, World War II brought growth to rural areas.  The army trained P-39 and P-51 pilots in Venice up until 1945.  After the war many of the G.I.s who trained here returned and became city leaders and businessmen.

Our friends Rod & Barb came to Venice for a reunion.
Linda & Barb taught in the same DoDDs school when we lived in England.  They also lived in Hawaii when we were at Hickam AFB.

Our serene, tranquil anchorage at Englewood Beach was so peaceful until . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . a parrot on a nearby sailboat started getting chatty!
I never knew a bird could have such a large vocabulary! (and not all of it politically correct!)

And the "new friends" list continues to grow!
Jerry & JoAnn, Loopers from Annapolis, share a meal with us at a local Tiki Bar & Grill in Englewood Beach.
