This beautiful heron at our homeport in Bayou Grande watched us depart for Demopolis.
Our NEXT boat will be able to carry a helicopter too!
The first time Spiritus has ever been boarded by the U.S. Coast Guard!
Literally in the middle of Mobile Bay, without another boat in sight, we watched these guys closing in on us for fifteen minutes. They were actually impressed that our paperwork and required equipment was in order and in complete compliance.
Going through the Port of Mobile provides a marvelous view of downtown.
Further up the Mobile River a tow is chased by a large flock of seagulls,
feeding on the small fish that are churned to the surface.
The "stern view" of our anchorage in the Alabama River Cutoff.
Fishing provides the Captain with an excuse to enjoy his scotch!
Underway at dawn's early light.
Bubbas on the riverbank!
The lack of current allowed us to make it all the way from
the Alabama River Cutoff to Bashi Creek.
Four days after leaving Dog River in Mobile Bay, Spiritus arrived at her summer home
at Kingfisher Bay Marina in Demopolis, Alabama.
Our covered slip made it much more comfortable to complete our major summer projects:
stripping and painting the mast . . . . . .
. . . . . . and varnishing the teak handrails and caprails.
Our reward after each day's hard work was a relaxing, refreshing swim in
the marina's pool.
