Down the Potomac

Reluctantly, Spiritus and crew prepared for an early morning departure from Capital Yacht Club.
It's always difficult to leave a place you love but we're grateful for such a wonderful 8 days.

We enjoyed a smooth, calm ride down the Potomac River with the ebbing tide giving us a nice push.
Passing Old Town Alexandria, VA, we reminisced about the days when we lived here in 1993-94.

On the Maryland side we were awed by the newly built community at National Harbor.

I
Sailboats with full sails remind us of our sailing days. Serenity at its finest!

After a long cruising day, we arrived at Colonial Beach and were delighted to spend three days in the family-run Boathouse Marina.

The friendly geese that visited Spiritus daily were almost as welcoming as the human staff!

And a beautiful mama swan sat royally on her nest adjacent to Spiritus!

Bill Bowman, owner of Boathouse Marina, couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating.
We spent 2 evenings sharing boating stories and marveling at his collection of boats, cars, and vintage artifacts.

One evening a group of us dined at this restaurant.
It was the freshest, most delicious seafood served by the most creative chef.

We used the complimentary golf cart at Boathouse Marina to explore this quaint, charming town.
We could understand why it is a refreshing get-away destination for folks who live in the surrounding big city.

The sides of many downtown buildings had colorful, creative murals.

This recently restored vintage motel transports guests to "life in the 1950's".

The golf cart was useful for so many things . . . . exploring the town, buying provisions, and going out for ice cream!

We had a front row seat for watching beautiful sunsets.

We binge-watched them for 3 nights!
