Cruising to the Keys

It will be a three day trip from Legacy Harbour in Ft Myers to Marathon in The Keys.
First stop: Marco Island.  Second stop: Little Shark River

This entire trip will be in the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
The nice part is that it's all done during daylight hours, no more than 8 hours per day.

Beautiful condominiums line the shore of the channel into Marco Island.

Our marina at Marco Island, The Esplanade, was a class act!

From Spiritus, we could sit and watch the "tourists" walk along the promenade.
We loved smelling the delicious aromas emanating from the fine restaurants nearby.

A wonderful planned community, a mixture of high-end retail stores, fine dining and condos lined the waterfront at the Esplanade.

This was a good spot to sit and listen to the live music, especially when you have ice cream from
Cold Stone Creamery.

The run from Marco Island to our anchorage at Little Shark River required a departure at sunrise.

After breakfast, dolphin came to play with Spiritus.

The anchorage at Little Shark River provided a spectacular background for "Happy Hour" on the flybridge.

Located in the Everglades National Park, Little Shark River is literally out in the middle of nowhere!
No man-made structures or illumination of any kind.  And absolutely no cell phone coverage.

After leaving Little Shark River and the Everglades Park boundary, crab pot lines were everywhere.
For the next six hours, Spiritus weaved continuously between them.

Somewhere ahead of us lies the Florida Keys!

The Captain takes a little nap on the bridge while the First Mate takes her turn at "crab pot dodging".

The entrance fairway at Faro Blanco Marina, our home for the next 30 days.

There's nothing but a 12 foot wide seawall and the Gulf of Mexico
between Spiritus and Navarre!

The First Mate is looking really good for her "belated" birthday dinner, don't you think?!
